Let’s get physically active!

In September, our team targets are to be physically active for 10,000 minutes & raise $2000 by September 30.

How do I participate?
THE STEPS:
  1. You have found our “Caulfield Hospital Community” team page - welcome!
  2. Click the “Join Us” button and make your basic profile
  3. Scroll down and add your physical activity goal (Moving minutes) and Fundraising goal ($0-100 as a guide)
  4. Log your minutes on your profile each day.  It will link to the team tally.
Moving Minutes are the minutes you're physically active.
Aim for a goal that suits your lifestyle and interests.
For example, a 20 minute walk, cycle, gym class, dance (in your loungeroom like no one’s watching!), swim, running around at the park with your kids = 20 Moving Minutes

Staff CAN log up to 60 minutes of walking at work, if their job role requires it!

Prizes for participants who:
  • highest amount of moving minutes
  • highest raiser of funds (dollars)
  • highest number of donations (number)

Many hands make light work!!
Go team!!

Hi everybody!

We have made a Caulfield Hospital Community Team to support the Stroke Foundation's healthy lifestyle and stroke education initiative —Stride4Stroke — and we'd love your support and participation!

Stroke Statistics:
  • Up to 80% of strokes are preventable with small, sustainable lifestyle improvements in blood pressure, physical activity levels, blood sugar, alcohol intake, maintaining a recommended body mass index and smoking.
  • One Australian suffers a stroke every 11 minutes, and increasingly within younger age brackets
  • Claims more lives than breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men

As we see throughout our health service, the stroke rehabilitation journey is a long one, often leaving survivors with permanent disability, which has life-altering functional implications on their physical, cognitive, economic and social independence.

Why participate?
  • Lower your risk of stroke. Research tells us 30 minutes of exercise 5 times a week can reduce your risk of stroke by 25%.
  • Encourage your family and friends to be active with you, to lower their own stroke risk
  • Be part of our Caulfield team
(Noting, this initiative is directed at staff but is not exclusive. The team can be joined by anyone in our community - students, volunteers, family members, friends! Unfortunately current patients are NOT able to participate.)

Moving Minutes are the minutes you're physically active in September—anything that gets you moving counts!

Everyone is different, so set a goal that is reasonable and achievable for you.

Walk, cycle, swim, gym sessions, dance (in your loungeroom like no one's watching!), garden, pilates, a kick of the footy or soccer ball, a hit of cricket, frisbee, hackysack, run — whatever works for you!

Aim for a goal that suits your lifestyle, whether that's 30 minutes a day, a few days a week, or just moving more than usual.
Every bit adds up.

For example, a 20 minute walk = 20 Moving Minutes.

Financial contributions go to:
1. Preventing Stroke: StrokeSafe Talks - training to a StrokeSafe volunteer to deliver community talks (a donation of $137); Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check; Information Resources; Funding to stroke researchers ($500+)

2. Saving Lives: F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Signs of Stroke Awareness; Living Guidelines for Stroke Management; InformMe Website for Health Professionals.

3. Enhancing Recovery: StrokeLine - initial advice and support from a health professional ($50); My Stroke Journey - stroke recovery packs for survivors ($25); EnableMe Website for Survivors of Stroke

Whether you choose to donate or simply share our team page - Caulfield Hospital Community - we are grateful for your support.

Every minute, every conversation and every donation —makes a difference.

Thanks for reading and all support is sincerely appreciated. Together we can change the story of stroke.
