Stride4Stroke with me!
Hi everyone, I'm putting my runners/goggles/dance shoes on for the Stride4Stroke challenge this September.
Stroke is often called "the silent killer" and it's occurring more often (every 11 minutes), and increasingly to younger age brackets. It claims more lives than breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men.
As we see on the hospital ward, the stroke rehabilitation journey is a long one, often leaving survivors with permanent disability, which has life-altering functional implications on their physical, cognitive, economic and social independence.
In addition, EVERY year 120 babies and 400 children experience a stroke in Australia.
During this initiative, your support can look like:
1. Sign up alongside me and count your minutes of movement!
3. A financial contribution of your choosing, and/or
4. Sharing this link across social media platforms
5. Words of encouragement!
Financial contributions sustain vital programs and resources, including:
Preventing Stroke:
- StrokeSafe Talks
- Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check
- Information Resources
Saving Lives:
- F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Signs of Stroke Awareness
- Living Guidelines for Stroke Management
- InformMe Website for Health Professionals
Enhancing Recovery:
- StrokeLine
- My Stroke Journey
- EnableMe Website for Survivors of Stroke
As a family member bereaved by stroke, a health professional and as a member of multiple communities, I know that stroke does not discriminate. It can affect any person, any family, at any time.
Thanks for reading and all support is sincerely appreciated.
So.. reach out to connect and to get active WITH me this September!
