I’m taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation!

Hi there, I'm taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation to help create a future with fewer strokes.

In the next 11 minutes, someone, somewhere in Australia is going to have a stroke.

Stroke is one of Australia's biggest killers and doesn't discriminate; it affects anyone, anytime. It claims more lives than breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. And incredibly, up to 120 babies and 400 children have a stroke in Australia each year.

By supporting me, you'll be helping to sustain vital programs and resources that Stroke Foundation provides, including:

Preventing Stroke:

  • StrokeSafe Talks
  • Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check
  • Information Resources

Saving Lives:

  • F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Signs of Stroke Awareness
  • Living Guidelines for Stroke Management
  • InformMe Website for Health Professionals

Enhancing Recovery:

  • StrokeLine
  • My Stroke Journey
  • EnableMe Website for Survivors of Stroke

Your support goes beyond just a donation; it's a lifeline for individuals at risk of stroke and survivors of stroke.

Thank you for supporting me. Together we can change the story of stroke.

My Updates

Day 1-3

Day 1: Swam for 30 minutes for the first time since 2013. I forgot how to count halfway through becauseI was so tired and so I think it was about 50 laps (give or take). Swam right into a ladder halfway down the pool gaining a 12.5cm scratch and plenty of bruising (thank you blood thinners).

Day 2: Walked 33 minutes. 3km. Couldn't stop just short of 3km. It was a recovery day. Kangaroos everywhere.

Day 3: Another swim. 1500m!! My pet event. In 30 minutes... not my favourite time but 20% better than the first swim, a huge improvement. If this rate keeps up I will be a world record holder by the end of the month (I suspect this rate will not keep up). And I reported the hazardously placed sharp cornered ladder... I admit I was blind or ditzy, but I think there are more like me out there. On the plus side as bad as it looks, I can't feel it at all. Stroke recommended if you are blind or ditzy... but generally, go exercise, check your BP, eat better and lower your cholesterol... all that good stuff. And sponsor Stroke Foundation.

So far I have helped Stroke Foundation deliver…

Initial advice and support from a health professional on StrokeLine

A stroke recovery pack to three survivors of stroke

Training to a StrokeSafe volunteer to deliver community talks.

Funding to stroke researchers to find the next game-changer in stroke.

Thank you to my Sponsors

I think it’s so incredible and encouraging to see that you’ve been doing this! It’s amazing to have the opportunity to help other people who’ve had similar experiences as you have, and to be able to cover and support them with all the help they need. Well done!
