My target 30kms

Before and after

This photo was a selfie I took with my left hand 8 days after my stroke. The facial droop I experienced as part of my stroke was starting to go away, but I didn't feel like 'me' at all!

I'm 3 years post stroke now. In the first 2 months after I survived having multiple brain stem strokes in one night, I was in inpatient rehabilitation. I re-learnt how to swallow, speak, sit without support, stand, walk, shower myself while sitting down, go to the toilet by myself and not fall over.

I was lucky that I had so much rehab, 40% of stroke survivors don't even get assessed for their rehab needs!

After this I worked hard for 2 1/2 years in outpatient rehabilitation to consolidate my gains.

My goal for walking in November is only 30km but that is 1km every day!

I am taking part in the Stroke Foundation’s Stride4Stroke to help Fight Stroke!

Sadly, 1 in 6 people will have a stroke in their lifetime.

Stroke attacks the brain- the human control centre, changing lives in an instant. The impact of stroke can be devastating for the individual and the family. But stroke’s impact doesn’t need to be this great, research indicates that Stroke recovery can continue over many years.

I need your help to Fight Stroke. It’s going to be a challenge, but I'm up for it. Please sponsor me today to support me and together we can Fight Stroke!

Your donation will help the Stroke Foundation support those affected right now and fund research to help prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery. Thank you.
