I’m taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation!
Hi there,
As a stroke survivor, I’m taking on Stride4Stroke this September and raising funds for Stroke Foundation to help create a future with fewer strokes.
Almost 47,000 Australians will have a stroke this year — that’s one every 11 minutes.
This year, every $11 raised represents one stroke expected in Australia. I’m aiming to make as much impact as I can — and I’d love your support.
Your donation will help fund vital programs and services that:
- Prevent stroke through education and awareness
- Support people and families when stroke happens
- Help survivors of stroke recover and rebuild their lives
Every dollar truly makes a difference.
Thank you so much for supporting me — together, we can help change the story of stroke.
My Updates
I Had a Stroke
At just 41, I had a stroke.
It happened in the middle of the night, although I had no idea at the time. I woke feeling exhausted and experiencing what I thought were my usual migraine symptoms — sparkling vision, tingling and some difficulty with my speech.
But I was also dropping things. My husband noticed that my speech was strange, yet I dismissed it as the migraine and carried on with the day.
It was around nine hours before I finally received medical attention. A CT scan showed an abnormality, and an MRI later confirmed what I had never imagined: I’d had a mild ischaemic stroke.
Thankfully, my recovery was quick. My speech, facial droop and hand weakness returned to normal within days, and I’ve been fortunate not to have any lasting effects or another stroke.
But I know how different that story can be. Not everyone walks away from a stroke with a full recovery.
That’s why I’m doing Stride4Stroke again. Thirteen years on, I’m grateful to be able to move, to raise awareness and to raise funds for the Stroke Foundation to support people whose stroke journey is very different from mine.
If you can, please donate. Every dollar helps. 💚
So far I have helped Stroke Foundation deliver…
Initial advice and support from a health professional on StrokeLine
A stroke recovery pack to three survivors of stroke
Training to a StrokeSafe volunteer to deliver community talks.
Funding to stroke researchers to find the next game-changer in stroke.
