I’m taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation!

Hi there, I'm taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation to help prevent stroke.

December the 30th, 2009 changed my life. In a caravan in Pambula, (near Merimbula, southern NSW) I walked to the shop to buy a newspaper in the morning. As I was walking back, my right foot is funny, nearly walking uncontrollably. As I walked into the caravan, I said to my partner that I will go back to bed.

With that, he rang 000 and asked for an ambulance. From Pambula, I was taken to Canberra, around a 3 hour drive.

For the next two weeks, I was mostly unconscious. I couldn’t walk, had no speech and my right arm was no good either.

I was flown down to Ballarat in a little airplane. Ten more weeks in the Queen Elizabeth hospital.

I had to learn to walk again, get an Artificial Foot Orthodox (AFO) and get 2 years of Speech Therapy.

I have called my right arm Trevor. He his always there but doesn’t do anything! Aaagh!

Nearly 14 years later, I am alright. After being a drama and English teacher, I am now living on a Disability Pension and getting out when I can!

My life has changed so much. However, look forward to things rather than looking back!
