My target 60 kms
This November, I’m taking part in Stroke Foundation’s Stride4Stroke to help prevent, treat and beat stroke!
Knowing the acronym FAST saved my dads life.
FAST stands for FACE, ARMS, SPEECH and TIME.
In September this year my dad had a stroke and it happened right in front of me. His speech became slurred and his face began to droop. I asked him to raise his hands and he was able to (sometimes people are not able to do this). An ambulance was called as soon as we noticed the symptoms. He was fortunate enough to get help straight away, was taken to hospital and thrombolysed. His speech was mildly affected and has since returned to normal.
We wanted to participate in Stride4Stroke to raise awareness, in the hope that it might save someone else's life someday.
In Australia, one stroke occurs every 9 minutes.
It is one of Australia's biggest killers, killing more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer.
Stroke attacks the brain, the human control centre, changing lives in an instant. The impact of stroke can be devastating for the individual and the family. However, the impact of stroke can be prevented, with research indicating that around 80 percent of strokes are preventable.
We have picked our Stride4Stroke activity goal and we are ready to go!
Please support our Stride4Stroke challenge with a donation today.
Your donation will help the Stroke Foundation support those affected right now and fund research to help prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery. Thank you.
