My target 100 kms

This November, I’m taking part in Stroke Foundation’s Stride4Stroke to help prevent, treat and beat stroke!

In Australia, one stroke occurs every 9 minutes.

It is one of Australia's biggest killers, killing more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer.

Stroke attacks the brain, the human control centre, changing lives in an instant. The impact of stroke can be devastating for the individual and the family. However, the impact of stroke can be prevented, with research indicating that around 80 percent of strokes are preventable.

I have picked my Stride4Stroke activity goal and I’m ready to go!

Please support my Stride4Stroke challenge with a donation today.

Your donation will help the Stroke Foundation support those affected right now and fund research to help prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery. Thank you.

Start the stride

November 1 means the stride4stroke 2020 has officially kicked off. My passion this year is in memory of my late grandfather but also my career. Care for individuals post stroke includes a wide range of health professionals including Occupational Therapist, physiotherapist, speech pathologist, dieticians, doctors, nurses and more. As therapist we encourage families to also be involved in therapy, this is sometimes the most challenging. I myself found that it was hard to be both a therapist and a family member as I always wished I could do more but at the same time only wanted to be the granddaughter and remove my OT mind frame. It wasn't always easy but I was able to use my knowledge and skill set as a means of communication to our family and friends so we could all go through the journey together.

Im a long way off my 100kms, but not far off my first fund-raising goal so please jump online and donate. Thanks for your support.

Family Matters

As many of you may know (or may not know) in Novemeber last year my grandfather suffered a stroke which left him completely debilitated. The week before he was on a business trip exploring new avenues for his business. Then without warning he lost complete use of the right side of his body, (including his ability to walk) he also lost his ability to speak. He was vision impaired therefore he lost all means of communication. Sadly 6 months later he lost his life secondary to complications associated with his stroke. He was a generous man who donated to many charities, to support those in need. Thats why this November ill be running in his memory and in his honour. He continues to fuel my love for the career path I chose, to help people like him achieve the most in life espicially after a stroke.
RIP JSW.
