I’m taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation!

Hi Friends,
I’m taking on Stride4Stroke this September and raising funds for Stroke Foundation to help create a future with fewer strokes.
Did you know that 80% of strokes can be prevented?
My goal is to 'Stride4Stroke' (physical activities including walking, cycling and exercise) 80 minutes of every day over the month of September.
If I miss meeting my goal one day, I'll make it up the next day!
47,000 Australians will have a stroke this year — that’s one every 11 minutes.
This year, every $11 raised represents one stroke expected in Australia. I’m aiming to make as much impact as I can — and I’d love your support.
Your donation will help fund vital programs and services that:
- Prevent stroke through education and awareness
- Support people and families when stroke happens
- Help survivors of stroke recover and rebuild their lives
Every dollar truly makes a difference.
Thank-you for supporting me — together, we can help change the story of stroke.
My Updates
Day 30 Update - I've met my goal!
I've met my goal of 4,500 'moving minutes', with 4,540 minutes of exercise and physical activity over the month of September. That's an average of 151 minutes for every day this month! Thank-you to my supporters, sponsors and followers. And finally, did you know that only 66% of Australians can name at least one sign of stroke? By learning the F.A.S.T. signs of stroke, you could save a life.

Day 28 Update - 10 km walk along Coliban Main Channel

Every 11 minutes, someone in Australia has a stroke – and stroke can happen at any age.
I’m in the final stretch of Stride4Stroke! I’ve been moving this September to help create a future with fewer strokes.
With just 2 days to go, I’d love your support as I make my final days count. And please share these important stroke facts too – you never know who might need them.

Day 24 Update - 6 km walk, back on the Coliban Main Channel
Another pleasant 90 minute walk today. Once again there were no humans in sight, so I had to make do with the companionship of a few birds, a few sheep and cattle, three horses, three rabbits, one fox, one turtle and a number of flies! See my earlier update, if you missed my announcement that any donations received today will be matched by our corporate sponsors. Did you know that Regional Australians are 17% more likely to suffer a stroke than those in metropolitan areas? If your community or workplace group would like to know more about this as well as the common signs of stroke, the effects of stroke and how to prevent stroke, you could book me for a free StrokeSafe presentation, in Bendigo or surrounding regional areas:

Day 18 - Walking uphill, along Coliban Main Channel. Another 6 kms!
Thanks to everyone following my Stride4Stroke journey - I've reached my moving minutes goal of 2,400 for the month of September. It wasn't easy, but every minute moved helped raise awareness and funds for Stroke Foundation. BUT WAIT! - Rather than finish now, I have decided to bump up my moving minutes goal to 4,500. That's 150 minutes of exercise and physical activity for every day in September. If you want to check out my progress or help me reach my fundraising goal, please visit this page.

Day 14 - Mowing with no Ride-on!!
After many hours, the mowing of the front and southern side of the house is finished. This was all done with a push lawn mower! One of the changes I've adopted since my ischaemic stroke in May 2023, is to improve my physical fitness, to help reduce the risk of another stroke. Roughly 40% of people who have had a stroke, go on to have another one within 10 years. I've now reached 2,085 'moving minutes' since 1st September, with my target for the month being 2,400 minutes (80 minutes per day) of exercise and physical activity. Please help me with your sponsorship.. Funds are needed by Stroke Foundation for stroke prevention education, stroke medical research and stroke survivor support. Every dollar makes a difference.

Day 13 - Bringing in the firewood!
One of this weekend's Stride4Stroke activities - loading up the ute, with firewood stacked around the back fence and then unloading into the wood shed!Arms – Can they lift both arms?
Speech – Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?
Time - If you see the signs, call 000 (triple zero) immediately.
I’d love your support with a donation – and please help me spread the F.A.S.T. message too.

Day 12 - My Biggest Day
I've reached 277 'Moving Minutes' today! This is my biggest day so far, with a total of 1,721 Moving Minutes recorded in the first 12 days of this 30 day Stride4Stroke Challenge - to reach 2,400 minutes of physical exercise and activity. by 30 September! Here's a photo with my neighbour and supporter, Bevan during our walk.
Day 12
Continued 6 km walk along Coliban Main Channel
Another 90 minutes was spent following the channel, this afternoon, with not another person in sight - just lots of birds, one kangaroo and one rabbit. Even the free-range farm nearby, had all their chooks locked up, under quarantine. The next leg of the journey will be the start of the uphill climb, as I approach the foothills of Mount Alexander.

Day 9
Stride4Stroke Update: I've solved the problem of all the excuses for not getting on my bike: Too cold! Too hot! Too wet! Too windy! Too much traffic (hahaha)! After having just been assembled only moments ago, it is now waiting for me to jump on and do 5 kms before dinner. Funds raised from the Stride4Stroke Challenge will go to stroke prevention resources, stroke medical research and stroke survivor recovery. I am smashing my 'moving minutes' target of 80 per day for the month of September, with a total so far, as at last night, of 983 minutes.

Day 3: Six kilometre walk along Coliban Main Channel
Equipped with a raincoat and umbrella in my backpack, just in case the forecasted rain come early, nothing was going to stop me from today's 6 km walk! In my StrokeSafe educational presentations, not many people are aware that 80% of strokes can be prevented. That's why I have selected my daily goal to be 80 minutes per day, for the month of September - which I am determined to exceed! Funds are needed by Stroke Foundation to provide the resources to continue stroke recognition and prevention education in addition to medical research and stroke survivor recovery kits. Please help us with your sponsorship of my Stride4Stroke challenge, by donating any amount, no matter how small.
