I’m taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation!

Hi there, I'm taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation to help prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.

Did you know stroke is one of Australia's biggest killers and there is one stroke every 19 minutes, even though more than 80% of strokes can be prevented?

Stroke doesn't discriminate; it affects anyone, anytime, even unborn babies. It claims more lives than breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. Even more distressing, around 600 Australian children experience stroke each year.

Your support can make a significant difference, and I kindly ask you to help me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation. It only takes a minute, and any amount you can give, no matter how large or small, will go a long way in supporting Stroke Foundation's vision of a world free from disability and suffering caused by stroke.

With your generosity, the Stroke Foundation will be able to:

Prevent Stroke: By empowering a greater proportion of adult Australians to recognize the modifiable risk factors for stroke, we can increase their chances of preventing stroke and living healthier lives.

Save Lives: Your support will enable hospitals and healthcare providers across Australia to enhance their capabilities in stroke care and rehabilitation services, ultimately saving more lives.

Enhance Recovery: By reaching out to those affected by stroke, the Stroke Foundation ensures that more Australians can access reliable information, resources, and essential post-stroke support, promoting a better recovery journey for stroke survivors.

Your donation will directly contribute to these critical initiatives, bringing hope, assistance, and improved outcomes to stroke survivors and their families.

Thank you for your support. Your generosity means a lot to me.

My Updates

Day 8

Day 8 SupSurfSwimStride4stroke
What more can I say other than how lucky I am to have such wonderful, supportive, and caring women in my life. A big shout to two of them, Susie and Hilary, who have been there for Greg and I thru our ups and downs throughout the last year. Today, they joined me, swimming laps, and supporting Greg with positive vibes and encouraging words as he worked his way thru his aqua therapy session. Between all of us, we must have added another 120 minutes to my moving minutes total... Whoo Hoo...Way to go....
The @strokefdn have also been there for us, that is why I am taking part in their annual fundraising event stride4stroke to help prevent stroke, save lives, and enhance recovery.
Feel free to check out my fundraising page. Any donations will be warmly received and appreciated.

Day 7

Day 7 SupSurfSwimStride4stroke
Suedes, PLEASE  donate look...
7 days into our stride4stroke fundraising campaign . Suede and I have raised over $600, helping and supporting the @strokefdn to raise funds to prevent stroke, save lives, and enhance recovery. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and donated. Your donations go  a long way to ensure positive outcomes for all people whose lives have been impacted by stroke.
Suede and I would love and would very much appreciate it if you would check out  our fundraising page and donate. Every dollar donated is one step/stride closer to a better life for everyone who has been touched by stroke.

Day 6

My number one supporter, good friend and swimming Buddie Susie joined me in the pool today for a 1km swim.... Being active is always much more fun in the company of good friends...
Susie and I will be churning out the laps over the coming weeks. I am super excited to have Susie alongside me on this journey.

Day 5

Day 5 SupSurfSwimStride4stroke
Suede and I are clocking up our moving minutes. Another beach to walk and explore. Greg and I have spent many hour at this beach and it's sad that he is not treading the sand with us this morning.
Post stroke fatigue makes it very difficult for him to get up and enjoy the early morning trip to the beach.
Pre stroke he was always awake and full of energy, super keen to hit those waves at dawn...
The Stroke Foundation has excellent resources, fact sheets, and telephone helplines available to assist stroke survivors and their carers manage post stroke fatigue.
Your generous donations helps to fund these resources...
Feel free to checkout my fundraising page, donate and help to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance lives.

Day 4

Day 4 SupSurfSwimStride4stroke
Smile, it's stride4stroke month, and I hope our silly selfie has encouraged you to pause, stop scrolling, and ask...
What is  STRIDE4STROKE month all about...
Stride4Stroke is a fundraising event organised by the Stroke Foundation. Every November, people across Australia take up the challenge to be active and raise funds to prevent stroke, save lives, and enhance recovery.?

The time you spend being active is measured in Moving Minutes. As we all have different lifestyles, passions, and abilities, how you get active will look different for everyone.??

You can run, swim, skip, bike, hike, walk, stretch, lift, or even set a movement target with your physio in stroke recovery or rehabilitation from injury.

It's all about making your moves count wherever you are

Day 3

Day 3 SupSurfSwimStride4stroke
I just love mellow spring mornings that invite me to SLOW down, allowing time to connect and appreciate the amazing place I call home.
The day Greg had his stroke, it was one of those mornings, fine weather,  wind free, perfect waves, and clear skies.
Little did we realise that on that morning, our life would be turned upside down.
If you suspect someone is having a stroke, that's when we have to move from a SLOW MODE to FAST MODE.
Greg was so lucky there were so many awesome first responders at the beach that day. Our team of friends went into overdrive, without panic, and in a reassuring manner, they were able to get Greg to hospital quickly. Their speedy actions helped to save Greg's life.

How do you know if someone is having a stroke? Think… F.A.S.T.

The Stroke Foundation recommends the F.A.S.T. test as an easy way to remember the most common signs of stroke. Using the F.A.S.T. test involves asking these simple questions:

• Face Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?

• Arms Can they lift both arms?

• Speech Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?

• Time Is critical. If you see any of these signs call 000 straight away.

Let's get the F.A.S.T message out there, folks.
Thanks to everyone who has donated. Your generous donation helps the Stroke Foundation get the F.A.S.T message out to all Australians.

Day 2

Suede and I are back out and about catching waves and having fun for a serious and important cause.
DID YOU KNOW
Stroke is one of Australia's biggest killers and there is one stroke every 19 minutes, even though more than 80% of strokes can be prevented.

Stroke doesn't discriminate; it affects anyone, anytime, even unborn babies. It claims more lives than breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. Even more distressing, around 600 Australian children experience stroke each year.
One of the things we can do to reduce our risk of stroke, or secondary stroke, is to keep active. Research tells us 30 minutes of exercise five times a week can reduce your stroke risk by 25 percent... (according to the world health organization)
Every generous donation big or small brings the Stroke Foundation closer to their goal of preventing stroke, saving lives and enhancing recovery for more Australians.
Any donations are gratefully received.

Day 1 Sup.Surf.Swim.Stride4Stroke

Day 1 SupSurfSwimStride4stroke...
I'm super stoked to have perfect sized waves to begin my SupSwimSurfStride4Stroke. Over the month of November, I am getting extra active to raise funds and support stroke research and prevention.
Together, Suede and I spent an hour Sup-Surfing at our favourite surf beach here in Exmouth...
The impact of stroke is life changing for everyone, and no more so than for our pets. Pre stroke Greg would take Suede surfing with him every opportunity he could. I am sure Suede misses those epic surf sessions. Suede also misses running alongside Greg on their 5km evening runs. The big bear hugs, wrestling games, and rolling around on the floor no longer happen. I can surf, run, wrestle, and play with Suede, but it's not the same vibe as it was with Greg.
So today spare a thought not only for stroke survivors their carers, family and friends. think of the animals and how stroke impacts their life too..
Everyone who has generously donated, your donations are gratefully received
Thank you for supporting stroke research and prevention.

So far I have helped Stroke Foundation deliver…

Advice and support from a health professional on StrokeLine

Stroke recovery packs to 3 survivors of stroke.

Training to a StrokeSafe volunteer to deliver community talks.
